    Adaptive Leadership & Deep Change 

     

    Dr. Jacqueline Ottmann

    Systemic change is deep seated, does not shy away from truth that can transform and strengthen, and is ready to exercise its power when invited. This force demands courage and those that see vulnerability and humility as companions, because the space that appears is dynamic and unstable, filled with uncertainty, but hopeful to the healing and wellness that can occur by moving through it. Experiencing this chaos and seeming disorder leads to a wellspring of possibility, an awakening to the essence of interconnected relationality, and to the realization of the beauty that accompanies creativity.

    Through her life story and educational experiences, Dr. Jacqueline Ottmann will touch upon the importance of systemic and transformative change in the context of a rapidly changing world and within the educational leadership landscape. For Ottmann, inspiring ethical spaces, ones that summon shapeshifting, is necessary to meet the complexity and growing sophistication of our world.

    AI, Classroom Assessment, and Authentic Learning: Key Considerations for School System Leaders

    The proliferation of new technological tools, particularly large language models such as ChatGPT, presents formidable challenges for contemporary school system leaders. Overall, there is a lack of consensus on what constitutes appropriate educational practices and policy responses in the face of this digital revolution. Drawing on theoretical, empirical, and practitioner perspectives, this presentation offers some key assessment considerations for school system leaders as they support teachers, resource personnel, and school administrators. Best practice examples from around the world are offered to highlight both the opportunities and constraints associated with the integration of artificial ‘intelligence’ within contemporary classrooms.

    St Albert Public Schools has developed and is supporting the implementation of a collaboratively crafted ‘Learning Progression Framework’ that aligns with the new Alberta curriculum. This framework will serve as a guide for teachers to tailor their instruction based on the unique needs of each learner, particularly those with intellectual challenges. The goal is to empower educators to create an inclusive learning environment that meets the needs and diverse abilities of each student in their classroom.
